Benefits using study group

As you begin your career as a real estate agent in California, you’ll be required to complete a 135-hour pre-license course which is followed up by taking the state’s real estate exam.Preparing for this test can be stressful, demanding, and time-consuming. The good news is you can use a variety of strategies to help you prepare. For instance, connecting with other students is a great way to ease the difficulties associated with exam taking.

To pass, you’ll need to not only know the materials but grasp the required comprehensive knowledge to apply these concepts in real-life situations. Working with other aspiring real estate agents, such as those you routinely meet within a study group, can help you succeed and pass your test. Here are seven benefits of using a study group when preparing for the California real estate exam.

1. Eliminate procrastination

By working with a study group, you’ll be less inclined to put off studying the important materials you’ll need to know for the exam. Working independently, it’s easy to procrastinate, but when you make a commitment to meet with a study group, you’ll be more motivated to keep up with studying, so you’re ready to cover the material with the other group members.

2. Help You Learn Faster

Members of study groups tend to learn faster than individuals who work independently. With any type of learning, it’s common to get stuck on a concept and have difficulty getting over the proverbial learning hump. With fellow students to talk concepts out with, it can clarify. Or, you can always ask for interpretations or see if other students know a better way to present materials in a way that’s easier to digest and understand..

3. Fill in Gaps in Notes

When you meet with fellow students on a routine basis, it gives you the opportunity to compare notes. Or, if you missed information because you were finishing up other note-taking, you can see what your group members picked up that you missed. Essentially, everyone in the study group receives the opportunity to have access to comprehensive notes or correct any mistakes made in their individual notes. As a result, fewer gaps are missed and, when it’s time to take the real estate exam, just about everything will be in the study notes, making it more likely to achieve a strong passing grade.

4. Sharpen Your Study Skills

Everyone has their own techniques they use to study. However, working with a diverse group of other hopeful real estate agents empowers you to sharpen your own study skills. You’ll be able to learn from the strengths of others and maybe even share your own with them. Adding tools to your study skills offers no downside, only benefits.

5. Break Up Monotony of Studying Alone

Studying alone is very monotonous and it could lead to feelings of isolation, frustration, and loneliness. On the other hand, working with a bunch of others pursuing the same goals as you are, not only adds socialization, it gives you something to look forward to. See if your study group wants to take a break from the library-type settings and try a variety of locations, which might include going to dinner or sitting in an outdoor park to study.

6. Hones People Skills

Working as a real estate agent means you’ll need to hone your people skills if you don’t already possess them. Success in this industry is 100% based on your ability to work with other people. In study groups, you’ll encounter a variety of personalities and this will strengthen your ability to communicate with different people, learn how to navigate (potential) conflicts, and contribute to helping others meet their goals (in this case, passing an exam, in a real-life scenario, helping clients sell or buy houses).

7. Get a Jump on Networking

In a sense, a study group can be your first step into developing your professional network. In any given industry, it’s pretty much not what you know, but who you know. Everyone in your study group will have built a sense of camaraderie – this is the perfect seed to grow a professional network. Remember, not only can you connect with members of your group, but they can introduce you and vice versa to other people. Knowing you have friends in your industry upon passing your exam will relieve the stress of knowing you’ll have to start this after getting your license. It’s never too soon to build a professional network!

Your success in passing California’s licensing exam will depend upon your gaining a full understanding of the topics and concepts used in everyday real estate business. To help you achieve this, joining a study group can put you on a solid path. Interacting with a study group is a great way to help you to keep on track with your studies, discuss relative topics, and learn from your fellow students.
