California's budget crisis and the Department of Real Estate

Over the last few months as California's budget crisis seemed to worsen many governmental agencies have experienced cutbacks. The Department of Motor Vehicles, for example, has decided to close all offices on Saturdays as well as the first and third Fridays of each month.

The Department of Real Estate has also been affected by these cuts. The DRE website says

"All offices will be closed the first and third Fridays of each month beginning Friday, Feb. 6. The closure is in connection with the Governor’s Executive Order (S-16-08) that addresses the state’s $42 billion deficit and ongoing fiscal crisis.

In order to obtain specific information pertaining to a license and exam applicants or to get information on the status of a pending application or to reschedule a future examination the department encourages the use of eLicensing or the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) by calling toll free 1-877-DRE-4LIC."

It is unclear whether or not this will affect the service levels at the DRE. If you are experiencing delays, realize that the DRE is trying to do more and more with less and less resources.

Just a heads up!
